Ink Clans: frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions people ask most about Ink Clans, each with a link to the guide that covers the topic in depth.

Playing checkers

Do the fights change who wins?

No. A fight only plays once the capture has already happened on the board, and the jumped fighter always loses it. The exchanges before the finisher, the hearts in the fight HUD and the finisher itself are all show, and the clan you lead makes no difference either.

Why did the computer take that piece when it was obviously a trap?

Probably because it had to. With strict captures, the default, any available jump must be taken and a chain must be finished, by both sides. Switch Capture rule to Free in Settings if you want jumps to be optional. The strategy guide explains how each difficulty picks its moves.

My man reached the far row in the middle of a chain. Why was it not crowned?

In Brazilian, International and Pool, a man that can keep capturing carries on as a man, so it passes through the far row and is crowned only if its move ends there. In American the crowning ends the move, and in Russian the new king keeps jumping. The rules guide has an example of each.

Can a game end in a draw?

No. There is no draw rule and no move limit. A game ends when one side has no fighters or no legal moves, or when someone forfeits from the pause menu. Online, a player can also leave, and if one side has been gone for three minutes the other can claim the win.

Can I change the rule set in the middle of a game?

You can change it in Settings at any time, but as the setting says, the change applies from the next match. The clan screen also lets you pick the rule set before you start.

How do I choose which finisher my fighter uses?

Set Finisher choice to Ask me. Every capture then shows a chooser with the three finishers, plus the ultimate if your fighter is crowned. The default, Surprise me, picks for you.

Playing with friends

How do I play a friend online?

Choose Play online, enter your name and pick a clan, rule set, capture rule and fight length, then send the link the game gives you, or let your friend scan its QR code. Your friend opens it, picks a name and a different clan, and takes the free seat. Anyone who opens the link after that can watch. The host moves first, and a rematch swaps sides.

What happens if my connection drops?

Your seat is remembered on your device, so reopening the same link puts you back into your match. The other player sees you as reconnecting, and only after three minutes away can they claim the win.

Can two people play on one device?

Yes: Pass and play. Each player picks a different clan and you hand the device over between turns.

Badminton

Why is Play online missing or greyed out in badminton?

Online badminton is for desktop browsers for now, so it is hidden on touch-first devices such as phones. When the online service is unavailable, it shows greyed out as "Online Badminton unavailable". Badminton against the computer works on phones, held in landscape. The badminton guide covers both.

Can people watch an online badminton match?

No. Online badminton has two seats and no spectators. The crowd view is something else: a computer-played match that you, and anyone you send its link to, watch from the stands, each in their own browser.

The game itself

Do I need an account or an app?

Neither. Ink Clans runs in the browser and keeps your settings on your device. Online play asks only for a display name.

Is it free?

Yes. Both games are free to play, and there is nothing to buy.

Can I turn the voices or the music off?

Yes. Settings has a Voice callouts switch and separate sliders for voice, effects, music and the overall volume. Reduce motion gives calmer, shorter animations without shake or flashes, and by default it follows your device setting.

Who makes Ink Clans, and how do I report a bug?

An independent developer in Spain. The about page has the details and the contact address, and the devlog lists recent changes and fixes.
