The Storm Ninja clan
"Spiky-haired lightning kids in purple gi." The Storm Ninjas are the one clan with no real-world martial art behind them: anime-style kids who fight with lightning and the odd whirlwind.
Spikes, hood and a gold buckle
Storm Ninjas have bigger heads than the other clans, twelve spikes of hair, some of them gold, with a fringe of bangs, a hood and scarf, and a purple gi with its own textures held by a grey belt with a gold buckle. The face is drawn in an anime style. On the minimap the side is purple.
Their names are all electricity: Volt, Raiju, Zap, Spark, Arc, Jolt, Flash, Static, Surge, Ion, Rumble and Kaminari. Kaminari is Japanese for thunder, and Raiju is a thunder creature from Japanese folklore.
Lightning from above, lightning along the ground
Lightning call is the one to watch from the high Board view. The Storm Ninja raises a hand, three sparks crackle, and then in slow motion a tall bolt comes down on the defender's square, with a shockwave and dust (ZAP!). The narration: "Volt calls down a lightning bolt on Mochi."
Volt dash is the clan's answer to the Ninja's Shadow step. After a crouch and a spark the fighter dashes past to stand behind the defender, but where the Ninja blinks through five quiet afterimages, the Storm Ninja leaves seven and draws a lightning streak along the whole path, finishing with a fist pump (ZZT!).
Storm spiral borrows the shape of the Ninja's Dragon kick and doubles it: two full slow-motion rotations in the air instead of one, and a swirl of wind on impact (VRRM!). It throws the defender a little further than Lightning call does.
Thunder God
Thunder God is a storm in two parts. The master raises both arms and five bolts strike the ground at random spots around the defender, one every 140 milliseconds, so for most of a second the defender is surrounded by near misses. Then the game slows down and a final bolt lands on the defender (BOOM!).
A knocked-out Storm Ninja crumples into a paper ball that is thrown away in a burst of scraps, the same knockout as the Karatekas and Nak Muay.
On the court: quick feet, live net
In badminton the Storm Ninjas share the quickest acceleration in the game with the Ninjas, and Volt Dash adds to it: 4 uses of a lightning blink-dash in the direction you are moving, tied with Smoke Bomb for the most uses of any power. Static Net (3 uses) electrifies the net for 2.5 seconds, and low shots from the other side get zapped, so while it is live, lifting the shuttle is the safer reply.
The badminton Thunder God is a hard ultimate to read the first time. Three bolts strike the opponent's court, the screen dims, and partway through its flight the shuttle warps to a different landing spot. The tell is "It warps mid-air. A gold spark shows where.", and the spark appears a moment before the warp, which gives you a moment to change direction.
Computer Storm Ninjas play the flattest, fastest rallies of the eight: they hit more drives than anyone, keep the shuttle short, and make a few more mistakes for it.
Who the Storm Ninjas suit
The Storm Ninjas are purple with gold sparks, and two of their finishers and the ultimate end in lightning. If you find the Ninjas too understated, this is the louder version of the same idea.
